Travel

Family vacations are a wonderful way to establish traditions, memories, and bonding experiences. However, money and time are always limitations.

There is a small window between when your children are of the age to appreciate traveling (around 8-10) and the age where their own activities start taking precedence (14-16).

In order to take advantage of the time you have with them, make a list of places that you would really like to visit. Plot out your time availability – spring breaks, summer, winter holidays and plan accordingly. Keep this travel TO DO list updated and strive to make the trips happen. Its hard to understand just how fast time goes by until your children are in middle school!

The Family Destination list includes numerous highly recommended and family-tested TO DOs to visit; best ages to enjoy have also been included.

A Special Tip

Are you dreading your next long car trip with the kids? Are you thinking of buying a portable DVD player for the car with head phones for each child so that for the 6 hour trip everyone will be entranced in a variety of movies while you and your spouse take turns driving and sleeping? Well there is an alternative TO DO – try a book-on-tape!

Granted if your children’s ages vary greatly, tape selection will be a bit trickier but it is possible. There are some great books-on-tape out there that can be enjoyed by the whole family. You will even find yourselves sitting in the car at your destination waiting for the end of the chapter!

You will also find them great just to listen to with the kids when you’re driving to their sporting activities or just doing chores around town. Check out this list of wonderful stories TO DO!
